Why don't people just use lodash?
https://lodash.com/docs#padStart https://lodash.com/docs#padStart
It's well-tested, well-maintained, performant, with good documentation and has custom-build to leave out functions you don't need.
- mjrbrennan 11y agoI had that same thought the other day. We are ending up with thousands of 11-line "micro-libraries" that just cause huge dependency issues and have limited usefulness. Like you said, lodash is well-tested, well-maintained and performant with good docs. So why isn't it just used more by these libraries? It shouldn't be a size problem either, if you really want to you can require individual lodash functions in node.
- skeoh 11y agoMy project didn't 'use' left-pad -- yet it was affected by its removal. The story here is not about the specific project that was removed but that in the npm architecture it is possible for a single maintainer to negatively affect hundreds of people and projects with ease.
- progx 11y agoAnd when a lodash (trademark holding) company knock the door and sey "hey, you cant use lodash anymore", what happen then? Will npm remove it or replace it?
- jdd 11y agoIf there was ever an issue I'd work with npm to come to a resolution that didn't break 25% of npm.
