They're not wrong. Nobody is going to pay $50 to rent a movie, so all that it's going to do is create a new avenue for instant, high-quality leaks.

- intopieces 11y agoI thought that too, but then I remembered that for a family of four, a trip to the movies can easily exceed that much, especially for a 3D movie. AMC charges ~$15 for kids and ~$18 for adults. That's $66 before you even get to the snack bar.
- smitherfield 11y agoPeople aren't perfectly rational beings when it comes to "sticker shock." They won't compare the $50 to the cost of tickets and concessions for the whole family, they'll compare it to the cost of a single ticket. And, somewhat more rationally, they'll compare it to the cost of renting the movie after it's left theaters (maybe $5).
- msh 11y agoI would, at least for select movies. After getting kids the time we have for going to the cinema have decreased a lot and the technical capabilities of home systems have improved. So if we could watch for example the new starwars on launch day I would have absolutely no problem paying 50 USD.
