I have a simple maybe stupid question. Why is is necessary to have 2 passcodes for ProtonMail? Wouldn't it theoretically provide the same level of security if the password used to access the email would be also used for encrypting the messages?
- forgotpwtomain 11y agoWithout having read the code but how it would usually work: would be that the first password is required for the encrypted private keys to be sent to you, and the later to decrypt the keys -- so one is hashed and goes to the server and the other is used to decrypt the keys sent back in the response client-side.
