I suspect that there will be a massive drive from early adopters, such as HN readers, to shift toward FOSS and decentralised services, where such laws wouldn't apply (I'd have thought), in order to avoid state intrusion on their private affairs. Others would then follow, and although a lucrative industry might suffer, in the long run we may all be better off.
