I have had a hotel say they have no record of a booking.com reservation at all. Lucky it was not full and they had a spare room. It's only happened once but if it was an important reservation i would now call ahead and make sure the hotel got the booking. At that point you might as well make a reservation direct. I'm sure they would be happy to match booking.com price.
