GM probably desperately needed to jump start their tech to be competitive and there was only a single acquisition option. Not acquiring Cruise may have cost them more than $1 billion.
- ocdtrekkie 11y agoWe're a decade out from self-driving technology being consumer-ready. Plenty of time to acquire or develop in-house down the road. As more people experiment with it, and more hardware and software specifically designed for it is available, it'll be easier to put together such a system.
