I think what some folks may be missing is that highly-opinionated frameworks are extremely useful for less-capable programmers. I think most resistance to large frameworks comes from experienced developers who don't agree with all of the choices made by that framework. This is fine, and they shouldn't use it. However, for someone who doesn't understand why they shouldn't pipe user input into a SQL statement, a framework can keep them out of a lot of trouble. Even though a more experienced developer may view it as "non-optimal."
