"We are the first major browser vendor to integrate an ad-blocking feature"
Firefox had it first. Enabling it's tracking protection makes almost all ads go away (because ads track you).
They're also forgetting Brave.
- StripeNoGood 11y agoLol Opera had ad blocker even before FF existed you dumb ass ;) (Presto engine)
- dao- 11y agoBrave is no major browser. Then again, if you look at the market share and depending on where you draw the line, Opera isn't a major browser either (1.68% according to netmarketshare.com).
- Grishnakh 11y agoI'm just guessing that 1.68% is still one or two orders of magnitude greater than the marketshare of Brave.
- majke 11y agoFirefox's "tracking protection" only works in private mode, right?
- dao- 11y agoYou can enable it for non-private windows by setting privacy.trackingprotection.enabled to true in about:config.
- RodericDay 11y agoI hate that this is not more visible, like in the Preferences pane.
- Etzos 11y agoIt's not in the release channel, but for Nightly the option is there on the Preferences page and has been for quite some time.
- RodericDay 11y agoI use Firefox Developer Edition and it's not there.

- gtk40 11y agoPlus, seeing how small Opera's desktop user share is today, there have been various small browsers that have also had built in ad blockers, like Konqueror (whose code supplies the base of most user agents today).
- bobajeff 11y agoTracker blocking is not ad-blocking. So no Firefox does not have that feature yet. Brave is not a major browser yet. Although technically neither is Opera at this point.
- brynjolf 11y agoOpera has had it since 2006 [0], so if you want to bend what they are saying they are technically correct :) [0] http://www.operasoftware.com/press/releases/desktop/widgets-bittorrent-content-blocking-introducing-opera-9-beta http://www.operasoftware.com/press/releases/desktop/widgets-...
- doodpants 11y agoiCab has had built-in ad blocking since the very beginning, in the late 90's. But by including the vague qualifier "major", one could technically argue that Opera was the first.
