The vast majority of things that Siri or Google Now can do, can also be done through the touch screen, and it often seems strange to talk to your phone. Echo doesn't have a screen so you have to talk to it. It responds quickly and more naturally. Part of its contribution may be making it more acceptable to have conversations with machines.
