    Would you have advocated that he refuse it, were you one of his advisors?

      It's hard. Refusing it is the right thing to do (since it directly contradicts one of his prime responsiblities), but also sends the message that one doesn't value, nor intend to strive for, peace. If it were me, I would advise refusal behind closed doors if they had gotten word ahead of time.

        Yeah, I'm certain they would have refused behind closed doors if they could. I don't think they had that option.
