I remember how long it took Microsoft to get this right. The first few versions of the Start menu and task bar items had a couple of pixels of space separating them from the edge of the screen. It was like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, such a profound reduction in usability over what was probably someone’s arbitrary aesthetic choice.
