This is why it drives me nuts when politicians say they want to run government 'like a business'.
It usually means by charging usurious fees to the poorest citizens and turning the criminal justice system into a revenue generating arm of the state.
- Shivetya 11y agoSorry, but government abuses the poor all the time and hardly anyone bats and eye. From the police cherry picking cars to pull over; older models, driving at night, visible damage and such all are good chances at insurance and license issue; to fees for government services that impact the budgets of the poor much harder than anyone else. At least a business would have to adjust prices to keep customers, government just raises fees because people have no choice
- kaonashi 11y agoYou seem to have simultaneously missed the point, and largely agreed with me.
- michaelbuddy 11y agowhat? So you're in favor of only abusinglawful drivers then, by letting unlawful drivers get away just because they're "poor"? Comments like this make it seem like every car with damage or "appearing" to be driven by the poor are going to get pulled over EVERY time you go out. Is it not also INSULTING to lawful drivers that people drive around in polluting beaters that aren't inspected, unlicensed, where the driver has no insurance. Not only insulting but constantly causing financial havoc on lawful drivers by fleeing accident liability. Question, ever drive with the police in any area where there's low income or income variance? Because it turns out that beater cars with visible problems like trunk lock punched out, broken lights actually will yield a good bust QUITE often. Even my few times riding with police, the people had existing warrants for things like abuse, robbery etc. Not just the cops wanting to get money off them. ALSO you'll find the police can be quite lenient in neighborhoods with warnings and such when they don't need to. AND another surprise. Many tickets you can actually get your paperwork between the ticket and court date, and present that you're lawful and the ticket will be dropped. That's quite lenient too, don't you think? I did that some years back with expired plates, and it had nothing to do with the cop either. The extra insult is that these same poor drivers, not only get away with not being responsible drivers, they also collect gov't (your tax) funded entitlements. Bottom line, a lot of poor people really just scoff any kind of rules, blame others, blame the police, flee accidents and are in the "poverty" line on paper because their income comes from nefarious sources, so they don't contribute back to the community. Maybe just maybe people complaining about abuse of poor should start some organizations to help inform people how to obey the minimum essentials like paying for licenses before buying lottery tickets. This is basic stuff that people ignore and if you want to help them, actually help them instead of blaming "the system" all the time
