I though all the mac os version up until they started using *bsd was single address space. They might have changed it in the very latest version, but from what I remember applications used to crash the os all the time.

The apple Newton didn't run the Mac OS, but rather the Newton OS, which was almost completely unrelated. It was comparatively modern for its time, although quite quirky.
