I think Facebook's trick doesn't help much on making the app look faster, but, it makes it look like the slowness is the device's fault rather then the app's.

And Instagram is actually making the app faster! The user can do the exact same tasks in a shorter period of time, because those are arranged in a smart way. Pretty good post though, thanks!
