I'm vegetarian... but I can't sympathize with your position.
Dogs do have a pretty tight evolutionary history with humans, but they've been used as food animals for plenty of that.
Pigs are at least as intelligent as dogs and suffer enormously in most modern agribusinesses.
Geese were a favored pet of the ancient Romans and served well as watch animals too.
Cows are social animals who clearly have a deep relationship with humans, including holding sacred status among some.
Humanity's relationship with animals is complex and ever evolving. Animals once bred for food have become beloved pets (guinea pigs), and animals once thought exclusively as pests have come under the protection of laws. We're even reintroducing some dangerous wild animals like wolves!
I get that eating dog is horrifying. I'm looking at my two dogs right now, and if someone stole my dog for food I would react much the same as if a child had been. But condemning people for eating one animal that you didn't grow up eating just isn't a tenable position.
