In the US, yes. Now they are spreading it to Europe with TTIP.
Edit: Not that Europe is some sort of magical haven of democracy currently, but this surely won't improve the situation.
- RobertoG 11y agoIn the Euro-area, for the important economic decisions, there is not democratic control by design. I recommend this lecture by Varoufakis (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCA68U3P_Z8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCA68U3P_Z8) where he explains his experience. In fact, I think that the situation is worse in Europe that in the States. The members of the Euro have very limited capacity of action because they have lost control of monetary policy to "higher" authorities. TTIP will have a similar effect, democratic governments constrained by rules sets in treaties almost impossible to change. My personal opinion is that this is the real goal of TTIP.
