There is no overlap between Global Entry privileges and airline status benefits. Obscene surcharges on awards are really only an issue for a handful of airlines like BA. I've redeemed over two million miles and the highest surcharge I've ever paid on an award was $350 for Singapore first class from Singapore to Tokyo to Los Angeles. I was fine with that.
