Computer has two translation in mandarin, while "electric brain" is the only translation in cantonese
- hawkice 11y agoThis is straight off the top of my head, but are you referring to 计算机? I have always considered that best translated as 'calculator', but obviously it is used in a lot of places where the English wouldn't be calculator. Of all the massively incorrect reporting out there on Chinese language and culture, this seems pretty innocuous.
- sswezey 11y agoIf you think about it historically, calculator would be a more accurate translation - it was something that computed or calculated numbers for you. In German, calculator and computer are also both Rechner.
