I'm finding this hard to believe. Google has a raging hard-on for academic credentials.
- dragonwriter 11y agoI don't find it hard to believe that 14 percent of some teams at Google don't have college degrees. Google has lots of teams, and lots of programmers. Some of those programmers probably don't have degrees -- perhaps a very small percentage overall. But they probably aren't equally distributed across Google's teams. So, there could easily be a handful of teams that reach the 14% level, while the vast majority have 0% without college degrees. 14% of "some teams" is something that sounds like it means something significant, but really doesn't.
- NeutronBoy 11y agoI'm willing to bet a significant number of those were from acquisitions, rather than hiring directly.
- gaylemcd 11y agoI doubt it. Candidates going through acquisitions typically have to be interviewed too and pass basically the same hiring bar. When I worked at Google, I knew many people without college degrees. None were from acquisitions.

- bootload 11y ago"Google has a raging hard-on for academic credentials" Google is a big place, lots of different tasks. The credentials part is useful as an SE. One place I can think of hacking ability over the latest academic credentials wins out, DevOps.
