Want to Change Academic Publishing? Just Say No
- PythonDeveloper 11y agoNot once in that article, or the comments, does anyone discuss the author attaching a license to their content, much the same way open source is GPLd. Part of the issue is that almost none of the authors of this information have the financial means to initiate a copyright lawsuit, and the publishers know it. That's why you should always publish your research work on the open web, in a manner that makes it very difficult for the publisher to put up a paywall. Alternatively, if all these authors allowed publishing if access is free, but 50% of pro-rata revenues if not, such abuse of access as is outlined in the article (Sage, for example), would go away as a class-action suit would now be a viable option.
