Similar situation here but I don't have any issue typing all the accents in French on a qwerty keyboard. It's no harder than using proper capitalization. When I made the switch, it was when I was doing a lot of Perl and I found the French keyboard was easier on the hands than the US one, as the sigils & most operators didn't require any modifier key to be typed—though brackets were another story.
