I agree. Fantastic is not what I'd use to describe npm. Mostly it usually works a majority of the time... It's tough to get reproducible deploys even when we have our versions pinned. Recently I ran into issues with npm global, Jenkins, and Windows Server and I was ready to burn the building down. I give npm a share of the blame, but not all, but the major issue was where npm global installs tried to install when run in Jenkins as a service.
