I have yet to see any HFS+ corruption. I'm constantly at 70% usage on my partition due to dual booting and virtual machines. The majority of my shutdowns have been unsafe because I suspend my macbook and I don't shut it down until it crashes. I've been doing this for the 2 years I've had my machine. No problems yet.
