This "software eating the hardware" is worrisome. It used to be that at least you could depend on the hardware staying the same unless you chose to apply patches yourself. Is it theoretically possible to change the microcode to actually add more features instead of disabling them? Let's say Zen actually comes out better than expected and then Intel miraculously releases another update which re-enables OC ability?
