At my university, the SE degree was much more about how to handle projects to help improve requirements gathering, combat schedule slippage, and other sorts of topics to improve project success rates, rather than spending time on overdesigning applications. I feel like it was a better use of time and tuition compared to focusing on design patterns, or programming languages and frameworks.
