I moved to Austin after 10 years in the Bay Area. No regrets. Great startup/tech scene, no state income tax, more relaxed life, yummy tacos, and I was able to buy a house in a nice neighborhood for about a quarter of what it would have cost me in San Jose. (Oh, and I also am typing this on a Gigabit fiber connection...at my house.)
- rconti 11y agoPower bill 100x what it would be in the Bay Area, too! First few times I visited Austin I thought "you know, I could live here". Third time it was over 100 for 5 days straight. And humid like a sauna. In May. If you can deal, though, more power to ya. I loved Austin.
