Logging is figuring out how to keep any and everything in a small to mid-sized time window which you hope (but don't really know) may be useful later in a very small time window. Monitoring is having something watch instrumentation (metrics) for anomalies. This may include views you build up over time on the previously mentioned logs. If there was ever an industry that could benefit from AI, it's logging.
