It's almost a universal format — there's a lot of value in that. I can just give someone this standard URL instead of creating some crazy word doc with weird indentations.
- umanwizard 11y agoThat's ridiculous. I have literally never applied for a job where I could just give a Linkedin link instead of using a resume or filling out a form.
- dclowd9901 11y agoSeriously? Where do you live, out of curiosity?
- umanwizard 11y agoI live in Seattle.
- TallGuyShort 11y agoMy experience too with companies in SV and several other States. Even if they accept a URL they insist on a file upload too. As an interviewer I like LinkedIn's format. It's far easier to read and easy to click through to previous employer's, recommenders, etc. compared to a resume.
- ngrilly 11y agoExcept for the fact that people CANNOT see your resume if they are not paying users of LinkedIn and not connected to you or your contacts.
- rrdharan 11y agoThat's not true. There are settings in your profile that you can use to control exactly how much of your profile is visible to people not directly connected to you. e.g. My profile is entirely public (you still need to have a LinkedIn account in order to actually view it, but we don't need to have any degree of connectivity): https://www.linkedin.com/in/rameshdharan https://www.linkedin.com/in/rameshdharan
- ngrilly 11y agoSorry, but I've not made this up: "Full profiles for 3rd-degree connections are available only to premium account holders." Here is a screenshot: http://booleanblackbelt.com/2012/09/full-profiles-of-3rd-degree-linkedin-network-no-longer-free/ http://booleanblackbelt.com/2012/09/full-profiles-of-3rd-deg...
- selllikesybok 11y agoYes, this was true for several years. As of January 2015, 3rd degree is visible again. Though if you're willing to jump through some hoops, all profiles are visible.
- ngrilly 11y agoI missed that. Thanks for the info. Do you have any link to some authoritative source about this change (I've been unable to find one)?
