Reportedly, the P.T.C. system had already been scheduled for a 2015 installation. This accident is likely speeding up the installation on other tracks, but I'm not certain that the Northeast Corridor really got this upgrade much faster simply because of this accident. EDIT: but yes, it's highly political. It's sickening as someone that grew up not far from where this accident happened and still travel the NE Corridor several times a year.
