Thanks mrduncan.. all valid points. Probably best to separate into 'advanced settings' and 'basic', with good defaults selected. As the feature-set grows, the amount of settings will probably grow as well but we'll keep this advice in mind. We want to leave the site as simple as possible while giving the flexibility to power users to customize their experience.
