I still actively use Pascal/Delphi 5. I wrote a lot of software in it for the company and I'd say the bosses are quite happy about it and couldn't care less that it's not something "mainstream". Looking back I can't imagine that it could have been possible to achieve with VC++ 6 or VB.
Edit: of course it's not just the language, it's the whole Delphi environment with a variety of components and libraries and the development community.
