I phone screened somebody not so long ago who asked me if it was the "kind of job where you have to write a lot of code", because they "weren't that sort of software engineer". Didn't quite know what to make of that.
- wwweston 11y agoThat person might be perfect for my job. I've been largely reading mountains of code that other people have written, until I understand what it does, and then make (usually small) changes in order to either fix a defect or add functionality. I don't love it. Maybe the person you screened should be doing my job.
- sbov 11y agoSome of the funnest jobs are when you delete lots of code.
- Apocryphon 11y agoMaybe he was an IT person who doesn't know what IT is called.
- swalsh 11y agoIt could be an awful way of saying he prefers maintenance to new development.
