I agree with you, but my quibble with your analogy that there are problem sets that will probably never need a 10x engineer, like disrupting Wordpress. Looking to create a completely packaged toolset, from a custom linux distro, that orchestrates containers and does config management (CoreOS)? You might need a 10x engineer.
