Great idea! I actually did a similar thing for my kitchen remodel: I bought a premade Boos Block countertop from http://www.johnboos.com/ http://www.johnboos.com/ for my island and saved a ton of money in the process. Wish I had thought of doing the same for my desk, though - next time!
