I think you aren't giving designers enough credit. They're generally quite smart folks, and tend to pick up Haml and Sass just as quickly as programmers. I'm sad that you found Sass's configuration difficult. What in particular did you have a hard time figuring out how to do? We're always interested in improving the documentation and UI.
