Re: roads under the Roman Empire Apparently, in France, when they tried to build some of the high-speed train lines, they discovered some Roman roads which were forgotten/buried. The reason they found them was that they were trying to make the lines as straight as possible between the cities they were supposed to link. The Romans had actually done the same and with great precision several hundred years earlier !
