>If I want something, I will get it
And what are all the ways you can discover things you want? I'd say the top two for most people are word-of-mouth and advertising.
- Sir_Substance 11y agoIf you shove it in my face, it's not me discovering what I want, it's you telling me what I want and hoping I go along with it. Gets really fucking old when hundreds of people do it to me every day. Advertisers: please piss off and let me discover the world on my own.
- assocguilt 11y agoNo comment on Turing then?
- Sir_Substance 11y agoWow, I have never seen this bad a case of internet-mad. Upvote for persistence!
- eric_the_read 11y agoI search for reviews from people I trust, compare the results, and decide on an option. I can't think of the last time I discovered anything I wanted from advertising with the possible exception of movie trailers.
- starshadowx2 11y agoEven before the point where you look for reviews. Like the moment where you learn a product even exists, and you decide you might want to get it. That's the role advertising fills. I agree with you on the second part. I block all ads on all computers I use, so they're pretty useless to me, but I still understand why they exist and the job they do.
- wmeredith 11y agoIt's a hilarious concept that people would be interesting in discovering something they want. Need? Sure. Want? No way. The very root of suffering is desire. -Buddha (paraphrased)
