TL;DR: Do things with your kids. Connect to them. Love them, not "because", but unconditionally. Everything I have read, and everything I have seen, suggests that parents have to actually parent their kids. This isn't to say they need to discipline, or treat; it is to say that they cannot be idle. It's too easy to sit your kid in front of the TV and let them be "themselves", and that doesn't do anything.
