The idea is to get experience in something, and start experimenting. You don't know if you like it until you have tried it. Regarding experience in Security, I wouldn't discourage myself on a lack of knowledge of an specific topic. For an engineer is not expected to know everything (it is practically impossible); learning speed is what you should care about.
