There's a crucial bit of ambiguity there- when they say "on-target," do they mean that the rocket is now sitting on the barge with a broken leg, or did it bounce off and explode like on the previous attempts?
- dlgeek 11y agoMy guess: Hit the target, leg broke, rocket tipped over, then exploded. Especially when empty, the main structure is very fragile - having the side hit the barge would almost certainly rupture it, resulting in a boom.
- manicdee 11y agoYes, just without the "exploded". https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/688837706005131264 https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/688837706005131264 Rocket lying on its side, bottom end looks a mess though. There was apparently some level of deflagration.
- jffry 11y agoDepends on what you count as exploding. It was definitely fiery: https://www.instagram.com/p/BAqirNbwEc0/ https://www.instagram.com/p/BAqirNbwEc0/
