It might not even be about you. You could be a nice, sincere, and super-intelligent person. Sometimes its just hard to be friends with your boss. They control your livelihood and it makes you feel like you have to act a certain way around them. You can't be your honest self for fear of reprisal. By all means be friendly with your team but don't compel them into a one-sided conversation for the sake of improving them (or yourself). I'm sure they can manage their lives just fine.
