I play lotteries when under some simple assumptions I believe the EV to be in my favour - usually when there have been many rollovers. Taking a MWI view, I consider it to be a way of transferring money to other universe versions of myself, and when you have a good EV, that represents a cheap inter-universe transfer rate.
