Could it not be moved to Mapbox or OSM directly?
- virmundi 11y agoOr MapQuest. People forget about them but they have open maps.
- Doctor_Fegg 11y agoMapQuest's open mapping initiatives are basically becoming a wrapper around Mapbox. I wouldn't build anything on MapQuest Open today, sadly.
- sethd 11y agoAre you sure they are using Mapbox (the commercial service)? I thought it was all based on OpenStreetMap data.
- Doctor_Fegg 11y agoPreviously they ran their own stack based on OSM data, but they're now moving to use Mapbox's stack (which of course is also founded on OSM): https://www.mapbox.com/blog/mapquest/ https://www.mapbox.com/blog/mapquest/
- sethd 11y agoI read that link but it doesn't say anything about MapQuest Open using Mapbox and only discusses their consumer product: http://www.mapquest.com http://www.mapquest.com MapQuest Open is separate from their main product and commercial developer offerings: http://open.mapquest.com http://open.mapquest.com I don't see anything on the MapQuest Open website that indicates they use Mapbox to serve their OSM tiles.
- us0r 11y agoFrom the article: "One option for me would be to rewrite routebuilder to run on another mapping platform, but with an infant at home and a full-time job, I frankly don’t have the time or energy."
- ocdtrekkie 11y agoAnd Google's given him a mere fourteen days to rework around a different API. For a program so hinged on an API like this, I imagine the amount of work to do that is probably quite significant.
