Single-threaded performance hit a wall around 2011, especially if you take overclocking into account. The difference between an i7-2600K (2011) and an i7-6700K (2015), both at max overclock, is at most about 25% and often much less depending on the workload.
- Tepix 11y agoNot to mention that the i7-2600k sold for around 250€ whereas the i7-6700k costs more than 370€! Nowadays for 250€ you can only buy a i5-6600k which is around 25% faster than the i7-2600k in single core performance, but slightly slower in multi core performance due to lack of HT. Only the GPU inside these new CPUs has improved greatly.
