The author left out a comparison on graphics cards. There is a recent trend in computing (starting around 2008 when GPUs became freely programmable) where GPUs are the new real measure for horsepower in a high-performance computer due to their raw speed and usefulness in scientific computing and games.
- marshray 11y agoMaybe GPUs are the measure for horsepower because CPUs have dropped the torch so badly.
- Svenstaro 11y agoWell, to be fair these devices have fairly different purposes. One might argue that CPUs are in fact sufficient for what they do in most cases and all other cases should likely be somehow be ported to accelerator devices such as GPUs.
