Email's greatest advantage is that it is a distributed system. No silos involved. If I want to run my own system, I can. The current hipster tech crowd seems to forget the very definition of the term Internet (network of networks). As such, the systems designed at its origin were design to work in a distributed fashion. Email is not dead. Email is just plumbing. Want a different experience with it, use better software layered on top.
