As a Londoner who did the last set of Olympics I don't think I could disagree with you more. Sure some things changed and we lost a few places to 2012; but on the whole we gained so much more. Maybe we got lucky through politics, but I don't think many people in London would like to have the Stratford and East end we had prior to the Olympics back. Hopefully 2020 works out well for Japan, but I don't think you can write off the Olympics all together. The UK gained so much out of them, if at a minimum we took a huge amount of nation pride forward which is probably worth the cost alone.
