It proposes a hypothesis for abiogenesis which requires very specific conditions to come into existence, and explains why other abiogenesis theories probably don't work. It's by scientist who has his own theory to push, and the origin of life is still an unfinished scientific topic, but it has given me an appreciation for why the Drake equation is too optimistic.
