One way to get around this if you're not crazy about the idea would be to put together a peer-to-peer insurance pool. (Discussed on HN here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10311357 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10311357) The problem would be finding the right size and composition of people that you can somewhat trust to be reliable drivers and that use their car around the same amount as you so that the risk profiles are all roughly the same.
