Why don't companies manage open source projects, and simply require a certain amount of contribution as a gateway to a final interview? This would allow candidates to prove their ability to write production ready code.
- branchless 11y agoBecause they'd filter out all the good candidates who don't work for free (for for-profit companies)
- johnrob 11y agoBut they'll interview for free? They don't need to be large contributions (and if small changes require too much time, that becomes a natural filter).
